I want my readers to come away from my story truly understanding why my characters feel the way they do | think the way they think | act the way they act, or if they do not then I hope they will at least ask themselves "Why?"
I want people to wonder, ponder, speculate about what they do not understand, and to attempt to piece the puzzle together. I also want to 'explain the correct answer' to them through the story, to provide a solid justification | reason | explanation as to why I give the answers I do through the narrative | plot | themes.
In order to do so, I write characters that are understandable | relatable | empathetic to the nth degree. I write characters you cannot help but relate to in some manner. They pull you in and immerse you in their world; So you may see what they see | hear what they hear | smell what they smell | taste what they taste | feel what they feel | act as they act || So that you may lose yourself in the narrative and experience it as a real, living, breathing, thinking thing || So that you may peer behind the veil of narrative || To find me waiting patiently for your reply.
That is why my characters act | think | feel that way.
